Stamford Healthcare System is committed to providing quality, affordable healthcare to Stamford and the surrounding community. In addition to our rural health clinic, Stamford Family Health Center, which provides primary care, we also offer additional healthcare services through Stamford Diagnostic Services (SDS).
Stamford Diagnostic Services is also located in the former Stamford Hospital District building at 1601 Columbia St., and includes Laboratory (blood work, etc.), Imaging Services (x-rays, etc.) and Physical Therapy services. SDS accepts referrals from any physician, even from outside of Stamford. So you don't have to travel all the way to Abilene just to get your blood drawn or an ultrasound, we can take care of you right here in Stamford.
In a recent Big Country Homepage article it was reported that CMS, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, as of January 1, 2019 requires hospitals to post their chargemaster in a downloadable format (CSV) to their website. A chargemaster (or charge master) is a comprehensive listing of items billable to a hospital patient or their insurance provider. This was brought about by the Affordable Care Act of 2010 and is just now being implemented. This price transparency initiative is the first of its kind and will allow people to shop healthcare institutions for the best price. It can best be described as the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of a new car. It is not always a true representation of what the patient's final bill will look like after a hospital stay.
Although not required by CMS, Stamford Diagnostic Services - Laboratory has published their laboratory test chargemaster on our website - www.stamfordhosp.com - click on Diagnostic Services then Laboratory and the links are on the bottom of the page. There is a downloadable file (CSV) and also a price comparison (PDF), which compares our prices to those of another entity in our region's publicized chargemaster for the same services.
"The average well check consists of CMP, CBC, Lipid Panel, Hemoglobin A1C, TSH, T4, Free T4, and a Thyroid Uptake for many [healthcare] providers. The cost of this panel at one area facility is $3,806.84, according to [their] chargemaster," said Bill Lee, Laboratory Manager of Stamford Diagnostic Services. "This same panel at Stamford Diagnostic Services will run $140.23, a savings of $3,666.61."

Additionally, Stamford Diagnostic Services has the lowest Laboratory Fee Schedule in the Big Country. Come see us at 1601 Columbia St. in Stamford, Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (SDS hours may differ by a half hour).
